It’s natural to feel concerned about the well-being and future of our little ones. However, it’s reassuring to remember that we can find comfort in praying for the children who are dear to us, the Holy Spirit acts as our advocate, offering support and guidance to us time to time.
Praying for children is a powerful practice for parents. There are a few prayers which offer a strong way to lift your children into the loving care of God and these prayers are backed with the word of God.
Philippians 4:6-7 emphasizes the importance of prayers of all aspects.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”.
I believe you all pray for your kids, but praying strategically and with the guidance of Holy Spirit is the key factor. Prayer isn’t just about sharing your thoughts, it’s not a one-sided conversation. Remember, God speaks back, and when He does, be ready to listen with an open and a receptive heart. Don’t approach God with an attitude of telling Him what to do. Instead, say, “This is what I believe is best for my child, and I’m lifting it up in prayer. But not my will, Lord—let your will be done. Guide me in your way.”
Here are 4 simple prayers that I recommend you to pray on a daily basis for your child to help them love God and grow in their faith as well as for their protection from evil forces.
- Prayer for your child’s protection
Ask God to watch over your child at all times—every day, every moment. Don’t hesitate to bring this request to Him, as it’s important to share your heart and intentions. Pray specifically about every detail of your child’s life: their health, education, friendships, social media influence and anything else on your mind. Cover every part of their day in prayer.
For example, if your children walk to school, ask God to protect them on the way. Then pray for their safety while at school, for good friends to surround them and for success in their academics. Most importantly, plead with God to shield your child from any harmful, evil influences. Ask Him to place a protective barrier around them.
Make it a habit to pray over your child before they leave for school—lay your hands on them, anoint them with a little oil and pray for God’s guidance and protection throughout their day.
If there’s someone among you who do not know how to anoint oil then let me guide you. Just take a few drops of oil onto your palm, you can also take water and confess over it saying, “I convert this oil/water into the blood of Jesus and by the power in the blood of Jesus I command every evil to stay away from my child for all this day and all this night, Amen”, and simply apply it over your child’s hair.
For all my lazy friends out there who may be tempted to take shortcuts, don’t make the mistake of thinking you can simply say, “I command every evil to stay away from my child forever” and leave it at that, thinking it’s a one-time thing. Even a small, unwelcomed thought or a fleeting image, whether in your dreams or your child’s, can make us all vulnerable to satanic powers. This is why so many Christians understand the power of daily morning prayers—it’s an essential practice that should be done every single day.
I once ignored the prompting of the Holy Spirit and faced consequences. It was the morning of a long drive and I was preparing food when He reminded me of some images- romantic scene images from the drama I watched the other day that had come into my mind while I was in a half-asleep state during the early hours. I brushed it off, thinking, “It was just a dream—I didn’t do anything.” So, I went on with my day and left with my family.
On the way home, I suddenly heard a loud voice shout, “Watch out!” We narrowly avoided a serious accident. Although the car was damaged, we were all safe. That day taught me 2 powerful lessons: never ignore the Holy Spirit and never leave the house without doing the Morning Prayer.
There’s a saying that goes, “A fool learns from their own experience, but the wise learn by observing others.” My friends I urge you to be wise and to learn from my experiences, I don’t want you all to get into the category of fools.
For all those who are beginners in Christ and do not know how to pray, here is an example for you.
“Lord Jesus, we praise you for your supreme authority over all things. I humbly ask for your protection over my child. Bless them with good health and lead them toward a life of flourishing. I am thankful that you know every detail about them, from the number of hairs on their head to every step they take. Please watch over every part of their life and keep them safe. In Jesus’ name, Amen”.
How easily the devil enters your child’s life.
1 Peter 5:8, which states, “Be sober-minded, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”
This verse of bible is telling us clearly that we should stay clear-headed and aware of what’s happening around us. The devil, like a dangerous lion, is always looking for someone to harm or mislead, so be careful and stay alert.
How often do we hear about abductions, especially of young girls? Keeping an eye on our kids 24/7 is humanly impossible, but the good news is we have a God on whom we can rely.
Be careful of what your kids are watching on TV and keep an eye on their browsing history. TV screens release satanic powers on your child’s body. I know this because I have experienced it personally, sitting ideal in front of TV screens watching dramas all day during my holidays brought so much curse on me, unknowingly I invited demonic powers over me and those spirits were preventing me from excelling in my academics. Don’t allow your kids to watch movies with extreme sexual content. Don’t allow them to do binge browsing. The words from TV screens, especially the ‘F’ word releases satanic power. Pop music unknowingly releases curse over its viewers. If you pay close attention, you’ll notice that many pop music celebrities often wear clothing with snake symbols or skull images. This can be seen as a sign of underlying demonic influence. Keep an eye on them if they are sitting with their laptops for long hours at night. Don’t hesitate to be the “bad parent”. Check out some you tube channels like jota drive, crash time, HSP digital and we will know how actively and strategically the devil is working to enter into children’s lives, you can’t even block these channels. Bible guides us through parenting. Here is a verse for us, Proverbs 23:13-14, which states, “Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. If you beat him with the rod, you will save his soul from Sheol.”
2. Prayer For A Saving Knowledge Of Jesus
Praying for your children’s salvation is a powerful and deeply meaningful act of love and faith. When you lift up your child’s salvation in prayer, you invite the devils rage over yourself. The one thing that the devil hates is salvation. Don’t forget to pray for your own protection as you intercede for your child, because the enemy knows that to destroy a tree, you must first target its roots. Ask any prayer warrior and they’ll tell you about the intense spiritual battles and threats they face from demonic forces.
I experienced this firsthand when I began praying for my father’s soul. I couldn’t sleep at all—there was an overwhelming sense of someone sitting in the corner of my bed, though I could see no one. The evil presence was so tangible that when I tried to turn over, I felt a physical touch from that spirit. It felt like a dark cloud surrounded me, with the spirit just outside the barrier, watching me in furious rage. When I turned, I moved closer to that invisible barrier and the spirit reached out its finger pointing directly at me. That’s exactly what I went through. I continued with my prayers and the threats intensified.
This was followed by dreams of my husband collapsing on the floor, struggling to breathe and even dying in a car accident. These visions were meant to fill me with fear. These attacks would not stop even after rebuking, oil anointing of myself and the walls of my house.
I said to the Lord, “If you won’t stand up for me, I can’t stand up for you.” That’s when He intervened and He has been protecting me since then.
When I shared my experience, a friend of mine opened up about hers. She had started praying for her family’s salvation, and on the very first night, she dreamt of a giant scorpion glaring at her in rage. The next morning, as she left for work, she saw a scorpion in the middle of the road, its gaze filled with the same furious intensity as in her dream. She was overwhelmed with fear.
The Bible mentions scorpions and serpents in Luke 10:19: “Behold, I have given you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and authority over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.”
The good news is that we are promised divine protection and safety. Psalm 91:10 reinforces this with the powerful assurance: “No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling.”
After sharing our experiences, we both felt a sense of relief, and then the Lord guided us individually on our paths. Glory to God! This is why having Christian fellowship and friends is so important.
A Simple prayer for your child’s salvation–
Today, I pray that my child will come to God and accept his gift of salvation. I break the power of the devil over my child’s mind and claim his full salvation in Christ Jesus.
Lord, I ask that you impress your name and presence upon my child’s heart daily. Put him in places where he will hear and know more about you. Surround him with people who will always point him to God. May he never be lured into the world’s way of thinking and doing things?
I ask that you fill my child’s heart with a deep desire to know Jesus. Help him to know and experience the depth of God’s love for him. Open his heart to seek and find you early in life. Lead him to you Lord and help him to renounce and confess his sins before you. I declare that with his mouth, he will accept Jesus into his heart and make him Lord over his life. I rejoice at my child’s salvation and say boldly that you (your child’s name) will believe in God. Amen!
2 Timothy 2:25 “God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth”.
3. Prayer for a Heart That Hides His Word
Praying for a heart in your child that hides the Word of God is a powerful and meaningful practice for many parents. Instilling a love for scripture and spiritual teachings in young hearts can have a profound impact in their lives. By nurturing a child’s connection to God’s word, we can help them build a strong foundation of faith that will stay with them throughout their lives. Through prayer and intentional teachings we can cultivate a heart that is receptive to the wisdom and love found in the word of God.
For all my beginner friends in Christ here is a simple prayer-
God please give my child a desire for your word. Please help me to show my kids just how precious Your Word is and to teach them to love it. Give them a desire deep in their hearts to read it, memorize it, hold it close, and live by it. May they abide in you, even as Your Word abides in them?
John 15:4, “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me”.
4. Prayer for child’s future
Praying for children’s future is a powerful and heartfelt practice that we must engage in to offer blessings, protection, and guidance to our children. As they navigate through the complexities of life, prayer is the only source that we can rest on. Giving God a control over our child’s life, seeking his guidance while praying continually and following his guidance is the best thing that we can do by our hands. World outside is getting complicated year after year, so much competition in everything makes me feel anxious about how will my child fit in and survive. Thanks to God, He has already given me guidance regarding my 4 year old child’s future and asked me to pray over it. Long term prayers do not fail. Galatians 6:7 says, “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” Sowing in prayer right from the early age of your child not only gives us a lot of courage and it’s like removing a mental tension from your head. Just lean on God and pray in faith. Trust the Lord with your child’s carrier and marriage and put it in prayer.
I urge you not to expect your child’s life to be a fairytale, because, in my opinion, such a life teaches nothing. I’ve faced countless challenges starting from my teenage years. Sometimes, I regret that my younger days were filled with struggles and sorrow while my friends seemed to have normal, carefree lives. But when I look back now, I realize how much I’ve grown. I’ve become a stronger person, learned to stand up for myself, and discovered how to love and value myself more.
I’ve learned to appreciate life in ways I never did before. I now know how to face problems head-on. Back then, I’d cry and pray during tough times, but it’s been over six years since I last cried. I used to lean heavily on my parents and pray to the Lord, but now I’ve learned how to handle things on my own. Whether it’s a challenging situation in my ladies’ group, difficulties in my marriage, or dealing with toxic family members, I know how to manage it.
The naivety I once had is completely gone. Now, after speaking with someone for just a few days, I can sense their genuine nature and identify any toxic traits they might carry.
Let your child go through the storms and struggles, while you stick to your faith in God believing that he is always watching. He knows when to stretch out his hands to grab our little ones.
Too much of anything is good for nothing.
Excessive favor from God isn’t always good for your child. It can lead them to treat God like a genie—just rub the lamp, make a wish, and expect it to be granted. Don’t let this mindset take root in your child’s life. The Bible even speaks to this in Proverbs 25:16: “If you find honey, eat just what you need, lest you eat too much and vomit.”
A friend of mine shared a testimony at church. She said that when her 3-year-old saw her in pain, the child prayed, “Jesus, mamma ouchy, help. Amen,” and immediately, my friend felt the pain slowly leaving her stomach. Another friend heard her child pray before an exam, saying, “God, Jesus, I haven’t prepared well for my exam. I’m afraid I’ll fail. Send your angel to dictate everything to me, and I’ll write it down. In Jesus’ name, Amen.” My friend had to step in and gently correct her child, teaching that this wasn’t the right way to pray.
I hope this was useful to you, do comment and share your own experience while praying over your children’s lives. May God lead us all into peace and prosperity, Amen.
